Employment and Learning Minister, Dr Stephen Farry and Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister, Arlene Foster these days hosted an awards ceremony for graduates from the Computer software Testers’ Academy

The Academy educated 27 graduates with the abilities and accredited qualifications identified by the 20 participating employers for new job opportunities in their respective firms.

At the ceremony in the Long Gallery at Parliament Buildings, Minister Farry congratulated the graduates on completing the Academy, and stated: &quotThe Computer software Testers’ Academy is an excellent example of how the Division for Employment and Learning and Invest NI assistance graduates to find employment. My Department worked closely with employers and the additional education sector to design and create this Academy to up skill HND and Degree graduates, from any discipline, to be Computer software Testers. The majority of Application Tester’ Academy trainees have gained employment with their function placement organization.&quot

The Academy model has been very effective and is now being provided in a number of areas, which includes Data Analytics and Cloud Technologies. It is also getting additional developed to meet employer demands in other sectors which includes manufacturing with the Personal computer Numerical Control (CNC) Academy.&quot

Arlene Foster stated: Matching the skillsets of our graduates with market requirements is crucial to guaranteeing that Northern Ireland remains an eye-catching location for inward investment and a fertile ground for indigenous firm growth. The impressive degree of sector engagement has been pivotal in the improvement of the Academy and a crucial element in its achievement to date.

My Department by way of Invest Northern Ireland operates continuously to meet the abilities demands of the ICT business in Northern Ireland and I would encourage any unemployed graduate to take into account a profession in this vibrant and expanding sector.&quot

The ceremony was attended by the Academy trainees with their guests, along with employer representatives and the two delivery colleges, South Eastern Regional College and Belfast Metropolitan College.

Ken Webb Principal and Chief Executive of SERC commented: “South Eastern Regional College is delighted to have delivered the training element of the Application Testers’ Academy for the third time. The Academy has been an outstanding good results for students and businesses. In offering these hugely specialist capabilities in a cost successful and innovative manner it additional demonstrates the worth that the Additional Education sector delivers to the Northern Ireland economy.

Justin Edwards, Assistant Chief Executive and Director of Curriculum, Belfast Met, said: “I would like to provide my congratulations to the graduates from the Software Testers’ Academy which is element of a suite of profitable IT academies delivered at Belfast Met. By functioning in partnership with employers, the Department, awarding organisations and regional Further Education Colleges we are instruction potential employees so that they have the correct skills at the proper time. The benefits of this response to the application business abilities gap are that people are obtaining employment and have confidence in committing to a fulfilling career in ICT while organizations are tailoring training and accessing candidates with the appropriate attributes and abilities to deliver their projects.

Thirty two trainees began the Academy with sixteen in every college. Twenty nine completed the nine week college based coaching, gaining an sector recognised qualification, the foundation level ISTQB/ISEB, at SERC’s Lisburn Campus and at Belfast Met’s e3 Campus.

Twenty seven trainees completed the fifteen week programme that incorporated a six week perform placement.
