Flickr is a shell of it’s former self. I am really disappointed in Flickr’s new beta version, which is now permanent. *sigh*

Just an overall bad web design. The side bar is the worst, with too many knobs, crammed into too tight a space. It’s definitely not faster and definitely not user friendly. IMHO you can have too much black.

Don’t get me going on the round icons, which are pretty much unreadable. Sorry but "new" isn’t always better. It would be nice, to at least go back to the previous version and give us back the option to opt-out.

Shame on you Yahoo! And shame on Flickr for further ruining what used to be the best photo site around 🙁

Vaginas don’t get talked about all that often. The word itself is almost taboo. Slang words pop up instead, often relegating the word “vagina” to medical books or biology classes. But not this weekend. The Florida State Women’s Student Union is about to reintroduce a discussion on vaginas when they present The Vagina Monologues this Saturday and Sunday in honor of Women’s History Month.

This production, which depicts a wide range of the female experience, will feature the work of several young women at FSU, including sophomore Robin Mackey.

“I would describe the show as a spiritual, physical and mental exploration, as well as a reclaiming of female empowerment and liberation through one of our most beautiful and unique attributes—the vagina,” Mackey said.

The Women’s Student Union at FSU, in addition to sponsoring events like The Vagina Monologues, plans seminars and panels to discuss gender issues. They also actively support women’s athletic teams on campus and participate in campus-wide events such as Homecoming and Relay for Life. This weekend’s production will also serve a good cause: While admission is free, the Women’s Student Union will be taking donations for the Oasis Center for Women and Girls to support women in need in Tallahassee.

“Working on this production has been enlightening,” Mackey said. “Although I have been busy and not been around in as many rehearsals as I would have liked to, I still experienced an awakening within myself as a woman and as a human being. I have listened to other women’s stories and been impacted by terrifying statistics surrounding female genital mutilation and rape.”

Mackey said that she is most excited to share these stories and statistics with audience members when the production opens.

“I hope that they resonate with our audiences in a way strong enough that people will leave with their perception of women’s rights, values and humor having been altered and expanded,” Mackey said.

While The Vagina Monologues contain some explicit material, the purpose of the different pieces is to start a discussion on what it means to be a woman. The production will include monologues about rape, sex, love, menstruation and more, such as “My Angry Vagina” and “My Vagina Was My Village.”

“Prospective audiences should bear in mind that this show is jarring, hysterical, hauntingly beautiful and all about vaginas,” Mackey said.
